Typing Tests Questions
(7 questions)WPM is calculated using the standard formula: (Total Characters Typed / 5) / Time in Minutes. A "word" is standardized as 5 characters including spaces. For example, if you type 250 characters in 1 minute, your WPM would be 250/5 = 50 WPM.
A good typing speed depends on your goals: 30-40 WPM is considered average for casual typing, 50-60 WPM is good for most jobs, 70-80 WPM is proficient, and 100+ WPM is expert level. For government exams, SSC requires 35 WPM in English, while CPCT requires 30 WPM in English.
Gross speed is your raw typing speed counting all characters including mistakes. Net speed subtracts penalties for errors, giving your actual useful speed. For government exams, net speed is what matters - every error reduces your final score.
Accuracy is calculated as (Correct Characters / Total Characters Typed) × 100. For example, if you type 100 characters and 95 are correct, your accuracy is 95%. Most professional typing requires 95%+ accuracy.
Yes, you can use backspace on iTypeTests. In practice mode, corrections aren't penalized. However, in exam simulation modes, the rules match the actual exam - some exams allow corrections while others count them as additional errors.
We offer various test durations: 1 minute (quick assessment), 2 minutes, 5 minutes (standard practice), 10 minutes (SSC/CPCT simulation), and 15 minutes (extended practice). Government exam modes use the official time limits.
To improve accuracy: slow down and focus on getting each character right, practice regularly with our lessons, use proper finger placement on the home row, avoid looking at the keyboard, and take breaks to prevent fatigue. Accuracy should come before speed.

Government Exams Questions
(7 questions)SSC (Staff Selection Commission) requires 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi with Kruti Dev/Mangal font. The test is 10 minutes long, and you must type a minimum number of characters with acceptable errors. Net speed after deducting errors must meet the minimum.
CPCT (Computer Proficiency Certification Test) is conducted by the MP Government. It requires 30 WPM in English or 20 WPM in Hindi. The test includes both a typing skill test and a computer proficiency test with MCQs.
Our platform supports Hindi typing with Kruti Dev (non-Unicode) and Mangal (Unicode) fonts, both with Remington GAIL layout. Select "Hindi" language and your preferred font in test settings. Our exam modes simulate the exact conditions of SSC and CPCT Hindi tests.
Kruti Dev is a non-Unicode Hindi font widely used in government typing exams. It uses the Remington typewriter-style keyboard layout. Many SSC and state government exams still use Kruti Dev, making it essential to practice with this specific font.
Inscript is the standard Indian government keyboard layout, designed phonetically for Hindi. Remington is based on traditional typewriter layout. Most exams offer both options - choose based on what you've practiced with. Remington (GAIL) is more common in older government setups.
Yes! We offer authentic exam simulations for SSC, CPCT, Railway, PSSSB, and Punjab High Court typing tests. These modes replicate exact exam conditions including time limits, font requirements, error calculation methods, and passage types.
Error penalties vary by exam. SSC typically deducts 0.5 WPM per error. CPCT may count uncorrected errors more heavily. Our exam modes use the exact penalty formulas of each respective exam so you know your real score.
Technical Questions
(6 questions)iTypeTests works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend using the latest version of Chrome or Firefox for the best experience. Internet Explorer is not supported.
While our website is mobile-responsive, typing tests are best taken on a desktop or laptop with a physical keyboard. Touchscreen typing doesn't translate well to real-world typing skills or exam conditions.
Any standard keyboard works, but a comfortable full-size keyboard is recommended. Mechanical keyboards provide better tactile feedback. For Hindi typing, ensure your keyboard layout matches what you'll use in exams (Remington or Inscript).
Keyboard type significantly affects typing speed. Key travel, actuation force, and layout familiarity all impact performance. Practice on a keyboard similar to what you'll use in your target exam or workplace for consistent results.
For Windows: Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language > Add a language. For Hindi, add "Hindi" and select your preferred keyboard layout. For macOS: System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources > Add Hindi. Our blog has detailed guides for setup.
First, ensure you've clicked on the typing area to focus it. Check that Caps Lock isn't on (unless required). Try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache. If using special characters, ensure your keyboard layout is correct. Contact support if issues persist.
